Alliance Women Prayer Items Oct 2008

[Current month]

Effective Prayer (from the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada)
An inseparable link exists between prayer and fruitful ministry, since it is through our prayers that God has chosen to unleash his power. There are seven ways to help you pray more effectively for Alliance missionaries.

Calvin and Pearl Lai – serving in Berlin, Germany
• They came back from 2 months home assignment from States to Berlin. Praise God that 2 people were led to Christ and many new contacts have been established by the interim ministerial staffs during their absence.
• Their co-workers, Pastor John and Hoiling Chan (John is preparing the language entrance examination in November) are in Hong Kong networking with churches to raise more supports. Mrs Hoiling Chan is coordinating Worship service. Please pray for God’s wisdom in planning & training if they are going to have bilingual Sunday Worship in the near future.
• A couple working in youth and children ministry left Berlin. Please pray God will provide brothers and sisters who are fluently in German to serve the youngsters.
• They need a permanent meeting place for the Friday Night fellowship as the community room in the student dorm complex is no longer available. They are now meeting in Pastor Chan’s apartment.
• A short term mission team from New York City will arrive in Oct to help in campus ministry contacting students in a new school semester.

Hans and Ruth Fung- serving in Germany
Hans has changed his role from the principle of Black Forest Academy to a Education Consultant to Janz Team Ministries (owner mission of Black Forest Academy) and to the parents of Christian and Missionary Alliance since last year. His main job includes: feasibility study for Christian schools; recruiting staff for partner schools in the region; networking with smaller MK or Christian schools; providing staff and faculty training to national or international Christian schools around the world; and advising missionary parents of C&MA in Canada about educational options.

• Pray for new students and staff’s adjustment in BFA as the first year is always the hardest.
• Pray for safety as Hans travels to Asia and other regions to speak at conferences, train national Christian teachers, and give consultation on Missionary Kid’s education.
• Pray also for wisdom and guidance as Hans enters the final phase of his training which is the dissertation.
• Pray for his involvement in preaching at Amsterdam Chinese Alliance Church periodically

Anne Louie – serving in Amsterdam, Netherlands
• Pray for one of their core church leaders whose health situation is not good. Please pray that he will have the wisdom to take good care of himself. Praise God that Anne’s visa application is now in process.
• Pray that she will receive the visa within the next two to three months

Joseph & Lisa Ng – serving in Phnom Penh, Cambodia
• Pray for the spiritual growth of their church members that they can spend time with God and bear fruit for Him.
• During weekdays, they hold Chinese classes in their church at 4-5pm and English classes at 5:30-6:30pm. pray they will have good relationship with students who come to the classes and also with their families.
• Pray for more workers that God will bring the right missionaries and national staff.
• Pray for the finance needed for the new church building; CEM, their headquarter mission, had helped finding a loan of the 30% (US $90,000) of the cost of the building, 30% will be needed by early September, another 30% will be needed in November and the remaining 10% will be paid when the church building is finished.

Philip & Lorraine Taylor – serving with FamilyLife Canada in cross cultural outreach
Recently Philip was requested by the leader of the Evangelical Fellowship of India to partnership with them. They will conduct a leaders training in New Delhi, India on November 15th. On top of that, Rev Taylor was contacted by Ric Warren's church which would like him to help with the PEACE PLAN that the church is developing for 24 cities in 24 states in India over the next 3 years. Please pray for the plans putting in front of him that he truly relies to God to accomplish them well in God’s terms.

Daniel and Dominica Lai – serving with Wycliff in Kenya, East Africa
• Daniel has been busy to arrange the translation, printing, launching and distributing the “Prayer Handbook for New Believers” in Kiswahili language. Please pray for wisdom, smooth progress & result to finish it within the timeframe.
• He is actively involved in Chinese ministries in his region. He went to visit some Chinese at a construction site on a recent Sunday afternoon. Please pray that his visitation could show God’s love & mercy to the workers.
• A brother Tan Wu who accepted Christ in Kenya some years ago is applying to study theology aboard for full time ministry. His visa application was rejected. Please pray for God’s will as he appeals.
• Dominica is in Sydney to take care of her mother who was hospitalized because of pneumonia and was discharged after a few days of treatment. Please pray for her speedy recovery as she requires body strength to receive 2 times of dialysis at home every day and night.

There was a real spiritual battle going on before they were able to finally sign the papers and complete the purchase. Pray that God will provide the necessary funds to construct the building on this property. Pray that her computer problems would be resolved after she received help from others.

Lois Belsey– serving Papua & remote lowlands in Indonesia
• Pray for healing for Lois Belsey who is experiencing hip pain recently. Pray for wisdom in knowing when to get this problem checked out by doctors if necessary.
• Pray also that some of her medical patients will be able to get a flight soon, so that they can receive the medical care that they need. Pray for Serina who is expecting a baby. Pray for a safe delivery of a live baby. Pray also for Nopianus (age 12) who has had a broken arm for over one week. Pray for wisdom for the doctors in re-breaking and setting the arm if necessary. Aliana's mother has a rather severe case of TB. She has gone to facilities for treatment twice, but never stayed long enough to get well. Pray for a flight soon, and that she stays long enough to take all the treatment and be really well- she has 2 children under 3, the youngest only 7 months old.

Mary McElhone – a candidate to serve along with Lois Belsey in Papua in Indonesia
• Her visa may be granted via the organization YBI, by the first of Nov. Please pray for God's timing in this matter.

John & Lorraine Young – serving in Madrid, Spain
John went ahead to Madrid after a year home assignment while her 2 daughters Sarah & Abby were waiting for their visas in Canada. Praise the Lord that they had received their visas in early September and the whole family reunited. The school had started a week before they arrived and their 2 girls adapt quite well now.

• Pray for the upcoming move to a new apartment in early October is well planned executed.
• Pray that the Lord will provide them with more people who are mature and willing to build the church together. Leadership training will be a major focus.
